Some will tell us that the motivation behind Raffa Clinic is “anti-abortion” or “pro-life,” and I suppose there is truth in this. There’s no question; we are a life-affirming entity.
But there is something deeper, stronger. The word I’m looking for is “Love.”
We are a life-affirming ministry not just because life is an excellent choice or because it is the right choice. We believe in life because we love.
With love as our motivation, we want more for our clients. We want– as Jesus offered us all– abundant life for those we see. We desire for each of them to love fully, and to be loved completely. We want every decision a client makes to be couched in love for themselves and for others, including the child she may be carrying. We believe that if we love her first, and love her with actions, she is much more likely to project this love in her decision-making process.
Jesus was asked about the “Greatest Commandment.” His response was all about love: “You shall love the Lord God with all your heart, and with all of your soul and with all your mind,” Jesus said. Then, he added another thought; “And you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Our highest calling here is to love God with everything within us. But to carry out that calling well, we must love our neighbors — each person who comes in our door (even those we cannot see) — as ourselves.
Love. It is not a feeling; not a warm, fuzzy moment when we feel tingly inside. No, love is an action.
Love takes time with those we see. Love listens. Love reaches out. Love offers hope. And love never gives up.
Love is why we do what we do, every day. If this is your calling, join us. Because love always has room to grow, too.
Our next volunteer orientation is Wednesday, February 26th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Raffa Clinic’s Greenville office. If you would like more information about you you can serve at Raffa Clinic, you can RSVP to email@example.com.
