Update on North Texas Giving Day!

We have an update on how  Raffa Clinic is doing in the North Texas Giving Day campaign.

As of 2:45 today you and raised $6,150 for the life-saving work of Raffa that will be matched! Thank you!!!

Raffa Clinic has already seen 1156 client visits this year. At our current giving level, we have given $5 for every client seen at Raffa Clinic. This may cover their pregnancy test in our office, but will not provide enough to cover their ultrasound or any other services they need. Please help us invest more into our precious clients!

Planned Parenthood is still leading the Leaderboard ahead of Raffa and other pro-life non-profits. I pray that this does not accurately reflect the mindset of North Texas. Please STAND UP & GIVE to LIFE!

Team Grayson & Parker

As you learned from our previous post, this year’s Raffa Run was our most successful Run yet. We raised over $12,000 for the ministry of Raffa Clinic to continue to serve women making LIFE decisions about their pregnancies. Not only am I blown away by the support for this year’s event, I was in awe of one team in particular. Team Grayson & Parker.

Let me explain. I first came to meet this family a little over a month before the Run. Mr. Jones called the clinic and asked about what we do.  He told me that they wanted to support an organization that did not give funds to Planned Parenthood. He told me that they wanted to support us. We had a good chat and then he told me their story. I hung up the phone and wept for this sweet family and their precious story. Their story is the true story of LIFE. I fell in love with their family at the Raffa Run (see the picture above). This is a family that truly stands up for and walks out their daily lives in reflection of their beliefs about LIFE. They are an example to us all.

One of our volunteers, Carmen Rockett, interviewed the Jones family (Team Grayson & Parker) and wrote an article advertising the Raffa Run that ran in the Greenville and Commerce papers. Below is an excerpt of that article that introduces you to this precious family.

“Timothy Jones told his family’s story. He and his wife, Randi had discovered late in 2010 that they were expecting twins. They eagerly waited for the day they would welcome two additional members to the Jones family. However, several months into the pregnancy they learned that their twins, Grayson and Parker suffered from a condition affecting at least 4,500 pregnancies per year called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS).

A Houston doctor recommended a procedure that would save the life of one twin, while ending the life of the other. Finding this partial solution unacceptable, the Joneses opted to leave the lives of both twins in the hands of God and seek a better alternative.  The couple was referred to Baylor for amniotic reduction, a procedure that relieves pressure in the womb by taking some of the excess amniotic fluid from the larger twin. On March 26, 2011, the twins were born weeks ahead of schedule. Grayson survived only an hour, while the family enjoyed eleven days with Parker before he passed.

The Joneses were surrounded by their family, friends, and church during this challenging time, but they recognized that not all parents have this kind of support. The loss of the Jones babies propelled the Jones family to raise money in memory of the twins to benefit other parents who may face similar trials.

They learned of the Raffa Clinic through friends, and through their church (Calvary Baptist, Wolfe City). The Jones’ Church had previously participated in the Raffa Clinic’s Baby Bottle Campaign, for which church members take a baby bottle home to fill it with spare change for the clinic. After carefully checking out the Raffa Clinic, the Joneses and their extended family felt they could give their whole-hearted support to this organization. In Tim’s words, “We had a great support base from family and church, but anyone who does not have that can turn to the Raffa Clinic.”

Of the amount that Raffa Clinic brought in by the Raffa Run fund-raiser to date, more than 50% of that has been raised by the sponsorship of the Jones’ team, AKA the Grayson and Parker Team. Their nine-member team consists of immediate family, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Along with four-year old Noah, they will bring walkers in their sixties and all ages in between.”

Wow. Thank you to the Jones family for sharing this beautiful story of little Grayson and Parker with us. What a blessing and impact these two sweet boys have had on so many.

Surrendering the Secret

Abortion has been a readily available part of our culture since it’s legalization in 1973. Since then approximately 55 million abortions have been recorded in our nation. Statistics estimate that close to 43% (1 out of 3) women of childbearing age have experienced an abortion. These are your sisters, mothers, wives and friends. These women carry an incredible burden of silence and heartache. Many struggle for years with repressed memories, guilt, shame and depression. Most women feel they are not allowed to talk about their abortion experience, especially in church.

The truth is many women who have had an abortion suffer from symptoms of post-abortion grief and trauma. Most often, neither the medical community nor the church understands abortion as a risk factor in a woman’s physical, spiritual or emotional health.

If you feel you have never completely healed or recovered from an abortion experience, or that a past abortion may be affecting your current quality of life, then Surrendering the Secret is for you. This study offers a 6 step biblical healing model led by women who have been where you are.

Surrendering the Secret is a study designed to bring women together who understand the need for seeking peace with the past and desire a better understanding of God’s plan for making the most painful losses of our past work for His glory!

Our mission is to provide a supportive and confidential environment that facilitates healing and restoration from a past abortion and bringing a sense of hope and purpose for the future.

If you are interested in knowing more about this study, please click here to watch the short introduction video: http://vimeo.com/6144509

If you would like to sign up for this study, you may contact us through our “Contact Us” page, email Threesa at threesa@raffaclinic.org, or you may call 903.456.4317. All contact is confidential.

Our next study will begin on March 10, 2013!

This movie is rated PG. Please see the review below by Focus on the Family’s Plugged-In Movie Review website:

In an interview with the Catholic News Agency, Last Ounce of Courage screenwriter and co-director Darrel Campbell summed up what he hoped to accomplish with this film by saying, “I believe in this country, I believe in the people, I believe in freedom, I believe in my church, my religion, my faith. This country is based on faith, family and freedom, and that’s what the movie is about. … It is very rare for faith-based film to be about our country and our people. This is really a movie about all of us.”

Campbell’s motivation for writing the story—which is very similar to Bob’s onscreen motivation for bringing Christmas back to Mt. Columbus—was triggered by real-life stories of heroism in his own family. His father and uncle fought in World War II, with the latter paying the ultimate price. Set against the backdrop of American soldiers’ courageous sacrifice to preserve our way of life, Campbell hopes the film will be a catalyst for renewed conversation revolving around the question, “What can I do to make sure their sacrifice is not in vain?”

Many viewers will no doubt feel a renewed sense of the cost of freedom, as well as the importance of not taking our religious liberties in America for granted. The film will also serve as a guaranteed conversation starter regarding how we as Christians should best defend our ideals and convictions in the public square.

Sincere and conscientious Christians will reach different conclusions about what that kind of storytelling accomplishes, and how well it explores the relationship between our spiritual convictions and our political ones. But nobody will miss the point that we remove God from our public places at our peril.
